The Road to Elysian (AO3)

Theseus and the Minotaur (in development, a prequel to The Flight of Icarus)

An alternate ending to Season 14 and setting the stage for The Flight of Icarus as an alternate Season 15. Theseus and the Minotaur will focus on Sam, Dean, Castiel, Jack, and Rowena during Hell’s invasion in Harlan, Kansas. In Chicago, Natalie and Elizabeth face down a few old enemies that escaped Harlan, putting them on the path to Venice, Louisiana.

The Flight of Icarus (in development, rough draft 65%)

Elizabeth Andersson and Natalie Murphy dive into a heap of trouble when Sam and Dean Winchester find them stranded on the side of a deserted county road after a hunt gone wrong. Despite the strange coincidence of the two most infamous hunters in the world stumbling upon them, Elizabeth and Natalie decide they can team up with the Winchesters… for now. Alphas, witches, demons, and angels test this new-found family, pushing the limits of their trust, integrity, honesty, and respect. And least expected, they each find little love along the way.

The Way Things Ought To Be

Innuendo (Complete) - If you asked Castiel, something was definitely wrong with Dean. Of that, he had no doubt. Whatever bothered him, Castiel also knew that if he were to get to the bottom of it, he must tread lightly. Press too hard on Dean Winchester and he’d bottle up tighter than the lid on a pickle jar. But when the possibility of a hunt distracts them, Castiel is forced to put his concerns aside and focus on the task at hand. Unfortunately for them both, the case reveals far more about themselves than they ever anticipated.

A Touch of Evil (Complete) -  When Dean and Castiel are left to clean up a mess in the archives, they accidentally release an incubus from his 1000 year imprisonment. To regain his power, the incubus takes up residence within Dean and Castiel, influencing their most intimate moments. But they quickly learn that the incubus is draining their lives from them, and if they do not satisfy the demon soon enough, they will die. Do they sate the incubus’ lust? Or will they find a way to exorcise him in time?

In Baldur’s Gate, Dragons Dungeon You! (Complete) - Charlie shows up  at the Bunker quite unexpectedly requesting room and board while she researches a curse for a friend. While helping her unpack, Dean happens upon her D&D book collection and when he asks if she’s still playing, she suggesting running a quick campaign for them. Dean immediately rounds up the family and they begin the story of The Scrivener’s Tale, only for the old adage to prove true once more: Life is stranger than fiction.

Sons of Boston

Four-Leaf Clover (Complete) -  After six months in prison, Dean Winchester turns state’s evidence against his mob boss, Francis McGill, and cuts a deal. Assistant District Attorney Castiel Novak is tasked with organizing a case against McGill, and through that, he meets Dean. Together, they analyze Dean’s statement, and with each interview, they unravel not only what appears to be a coverup, but a romantic spark between them that neither had anticipated. Can the ex-criminal and the attorney navigate their relationship while juggling the case? Or will their incongruent pasts prove insurmountable?

Luck Strikes Twice (In Development) - A sequel Four-Leaf Clover, working title.

Other Series

Rx: Physical Therapy (Complete) - Dean Winchester begins his new job at the local hospital as a physical therapist, where Dr. Castiel Novak is the surgeon responsible for his patient list. A non-hunter Destiel AU.

Bang a Gong (Complete) - Once upon a time in November of 2018, I met a man named Jared Padalecki in downtown Minneapolis.

Unconventional (Complete) -  Meeting Jared and Jensen at the convention was a given, but you thought it would be at the convention. Not your hotel.

There’s Something Strange (Complete) - When Y/N Y/L/N escapes to the upper Midwest for a weekend of inspiration to begin her tenth paranormal thriller novel, she never imagined the source of that inspiration to be her own life. Between the old mansion, two peculiar men posing as antiquers, and the mysterious death of the heiress of Hill Manor one-hundred and fifty years ago, Y/N learns the truth about far more than the paranormal.

Cowboys and Angels (Complete) -  Filming for the last season of Supernatural is underway and Y/N, long-time set photographer, finds herself the center of attention for two of her co-workers, Misha Collins and Jensen Ackles. A roller-coaster of emotions ensues over the year as the three of them attempt to balance work, the end of an era, and experimental love.

Long Jacket (Complete) - Over the last few years, I’ve seen some of the craziest shit hunting with the Winchesters and their angel, Castiel. But this story right here? This isn’t about monsters. This isn’t about the battle between good and evil, heaven and hell. I understand all that. It’s people I don’t get. People are crazy. And we do crazy things when we’re in love.

The Midnight Ride (Complete) - Long is our list of ghost stories laid to rest. But when the dark rider returns thirty years after his exorcism at the hands of the Winchesters, Sam, Dean, and I are faced with the possibility that we’ve been wrong about one thing. Some urban legends never die.

Good for this person. This is exactly what you do. Screw the job.

I had a job that made me work an all nighter, 30 hours straight, over Thanksgiving. I resigned that Monday and it was one of the most satisfying decisions I’ve ever made.

Part 3:

Please pay attention to all the manipulation tactics this boss uses, because they’re pulling out every trick in the book.

  • “I’m not your boss, I’m your friend”
  • “Other people will be hurt by this and it’s your fault and I’m going to tell them all that”
  • Mocking language
  • Jobs are important too
  • “Be a team player”
  • “We’re your family too”
  • Talking as if this is a thing you must do
  • “We all make sacrifices”
  • Undermining your authority
  • “You caused all of this, really”
  • Accusing you of being “unprofessional”
  • “Look at the money you cost us”
  • “Just laugh it off and come back to work”

This is like a 101 course in how employers use guilt trips to coerce you into putting up with their bullshit. This is precisely why you should never trust those employers who insist that they’re “like a family.” They are not. It’s just a ruse so that your boss can neg you into putting your job ahead of your actual life.

So as I was reading this, my Spidey Sense was tingling the whole time. And then I read the three magic words:

Python
Alteryx
SSIS

Holy fucking shit this guy’s an ETL developer. I feel this in my bones, my soul. I know what this man has been through far too acutely. I have been in his shoes and because I could not afford to quit, I had to stay with the shite company that treated me like garbage (when I originally saved their asses by agreeing to take a position below the one I interviewed for in the first place).

Data Warehousing and ETL development are horseshit jobs. They are thankless, the typical projects we work on take years to even come close to “finishing”, they never truly finish because of all the garbage (aka tech debt) that gets developed over time, and then once you’re “finished” you don’t take five minutes to fucking breath nd you’re already working on enhancements. All the time developing is extremely unrewarding (excluding smaller moments that nobody but you will celebrate because it doesn’t produce anything for the business).

Do I make an assload of money? Yes. Do I like the work I do. Oddly, yes. The work in and of itself is engaging, challenging, and rewarding. But the companies and the leadership and the whip-cracking and all the “sorry, you’re at the top of your pay scale, can’t give you a raise, and we won’t promote you” fucking bullshit no matter how hard you bust your ass… makes me want to quit. Every day.

That guy’s company though? Fucking idiots. How they did not just walk away and figure it out on their own is beyond me. I cannot tell you how many jobs I’ve had where people have quit and incredibly critical moments and the work has simply fallen to whoever is left to just figure it the fuck out (I have been that person too many times, too).

I’m a data scientist and the data warehousing specialists are so under appreciated in every organization. You probably need 3 data engineers for every data scientist but that area is chronically understaffed.

OH BOY DO I HAVE AN UPDATE

I added the above commentary on February 9th 2022. I was in the depths of the third trimester for my second kid. She was born in March three days past her due date. So I was super high on all the late pregnancy hormones when I wrote that screed. Reading it back again now, it’s still all resonates. BUT it’s in the rear view mirror for me.

I left the IT side and moved to HR. I still do technical work, but I’m not really an ETL/DWE anymore. I’m a Business Intelligence Engineer and so I do mostly data acquisition out of the front end and then presentation layer development (Power BI). And let me tell you just how less stressful it’s been. I don’t work in two-week sprints anymore where people are constantly breathing down my neck. I can dictate my own project timelines. I can source my own projects. I’m not at the mercy of my manager anymore, and my own ideas and requests from the rest of the business are what generate work for me.

When I returned from maternity leave, my manager on IT had worked with the team we were building the warehouse for and they literally created this role for me on their team so instead of me having to do that front end data acquisition work AND build the fucking data warehouse, I’ve been focusing on just the front end for about the last year. And I’ve made some huge breakthroughs on issues we were facing in data accuracy/integrity. It’s amazing, really. When I was working on both sides of the house, I was completely swamped with too many disparate responsibilities that I couldn’t even see the surface anymore. I had no clue how inefficient things had gotten because I couldn’t come up for air. There was no way to find a solution because I never had the headspace to do it.

So now I don’t hate my job anymore and my stress levels at work have disappeared. Which is great because I have two little kids under the age of 5 and both of my in-laws passed away this year three months apart. I have enough stress everywhere else in my life. I don’t need the above bullshit at work.

Data Warehouse teams (if you’re lucky to be more than one person on a “team”) are, indeed, chronically understaffed and treated like shit because all they do is cost the company money. But they wouldn’t if they were properly staffed so they could properly finish projects that are supposed to save the company money by providing data that informs decision-making.

Based on this excellent prompt by @saintedcastiel. It’s such an amazing concept and I can’t believe it hasn’t been done (that I know of). And many thanks to @alleiradayne because this fic wouldn’t exist if she hadn’t shared the post in our writing group.

Breaking News

Being one half of a semi-popular morning news duo in New York’s fifth-biggest media market comes with certain advantages.

Having to wake up at 4 a.m. every weekday is not one of them. It’s simply not a reasonable time to be awake, and Castiel is not a morning person to begin with. In fact, he’s so spectacularly disagreeable before he’s had his first cup of coffee that three separate college roommates mentioned it as their reason for moving out.

(Which is why the only real luxury item he keeps in his apartment these days is a professional-grade coffee maker whose hot, fragrant product usually renders him halfway human by the time he arrives at the studio.)

Also not an advantage: Meg from makeup, who is maybe, occasionally, on some days, a friend but is really just a lot to deal with before sunrise.
